Kindergarten
Watch out 1st Grade,  here we come! We need to give our Kindergarteners a ‘Hip Hip Hooray ‘for all the hard work they have done this year.  It’s amazing to think back to the beginning of school and then look at them now. They have grown so much socially and academically! MIND BOGGLING! Thank you for allowing us to be part of your child’s educational journey. It has been an AMAZING year and we are so THANKFUL we were able to stay in school.    READING: WOW, look at them go! We will continue to practice our SUPER POWERS and different reading strategies that we are learning about and implementing them into our daily practice.  Please continue to have your Kindergartener read this summer, the benefits of summer reading are astounding!
WRITING:  We will wrap up our opinion writing in the middle of the month and revisit previous genres, such as narrative or informational writing.  During the summer, encourage your child to draw and write ‘true stories’ about summer outings/activities or write their opinion about a new food they tried or a new place they visited.  Remember our Kindergarteners write using phonetic spelling-write the sounds they hear as they stretch out the word-so you may have to have your child read their writing to you.  😉
MATH: We will continue to work in Operations building on addition and subtraction structures (number bonds, bar model, equation formation) and developing fluency.  Fluency is not what many think or how we used to view it as. In Kindergarten, fluency develops as children adva          nce from direct modeling using objects to applying more advanced counting strategies.  As children develop and come to understanding counting patterns, they realize counting is not always an effective way to solve problems.  Fluency develops by applying strategies within the context of the problem and practice through games.

1st Grade

Math: For this last month we will be working on money, length and measurement, data, and reviewing what we have learned throughout the year. Lots of fun math opportunities coming your student’s way.

Reading: We have seen so much growth in this area! Not even a pandemic could stop these students from reaching some high goals. To end the year, we will be focusing on describing characters, looking closely at books and reviewing them to form opinions.
Writing: We will finish our opinion writing unit. The students have been working hard to work on their capitalizations, punctuation, and elaborating on their ideas. We will continue to fine tune their writing and get them ready for second grade.
Important dates for 1st graders:
May 7th: Field trip to Prosser Farm and the bowling alley. Cost is $5.
Mid May will be our district assessments and Aims Web, exact dates to come.
May 19th: Raptor Assembly
May 20th: Wyoming Reads.
May 25th: Crayon Play at the high school and parents are invited to come!
May 26th: Lunch at Star Park.
(For the 7th, 20th, 25th, and 26th, we will need to know if your child will be having home or school lunch.)

2nd Grade

 Wow! It’s hard to believe that we are now starting the last month of school. We have been so grateful to be in school face to face. Thank you for your support! For the first part of the month we will be finishing up fractions and measurement in math. In writing, we are firming up our opinion writing. May 11th, 12th, and 13th we will be having District Assessments. Please help your 2nd grader get to bed early and have a healthy breakfast on those days. Most of all give them a hug and loving encouragement to do their best. We have some fun activities planned for the last couple weeks of school. Make sure to read your teacher’s newsletter and watch for notes!

3rd Grade

We did it! We finished all our WY-TOPP testing! Thank you, parents, for helping your child with good nights’ sleeps. We are happy to report that our students did an amazing job on all their testing. April has been full of a lot of review in preparation, and the kids really did their best! Ask your student how they feel about WY-TOPP. We worked hard to make it the best testing experience possible!
We have a lot coming up in May! In addition to our District testing, we have some fun things scheduled. May 13, we will be having a special lunch at Canyon View Park complete with activities to help us celebrate a job well done.
May 19 is our Star Valley Days. This will be held at the fairgrounds and include all kinds of activities that celebrate the great valley we live in. Students will need a sack lunch on May 19.
Thank you for all you do at home to help your students. It has really helped them grow this year!
